There are two technical categories of Containers:

• ISO Shipping Containers: Used for global Intermodal shipping such as ocean, truck, and rail. These are either, new, used, one-trip, or refurbished and re-certified to CSC / IICL standards.
• ISBU modules: The term ISBU means Intermodal Steel Building Unit. These modules are shipping containers “not” for use in shipping, but for use as construction modules or storage units.

All our containers are inspected and repaired if necessary to meet the CSC and IICL standards as a shipping container, or SIR standards for ISBU use as Technology shells, Construction modules, Portable storage units, or Permanent storage facilities.

Some of our members manufacture containers, some of our members are dealers/wholesalers, and some also specialize in ISBU modifications.

The more common Shipping Containers and ISBU are 20GP, 40GP, and 40HC. Most of our dealers also either specialize in, or have immediate access to 45GP, 53GP, refrigerator containers, tankers, all type parts and repair services.

Due to the immense growth of the Internet, combined with global economic issues, there is an increased growth of deceptive businesses and fraud.

Even before 2008 there were many “con artists” in the Container industry.

There are two principle reasons the ISBU Association was prompted to also organize the Container Dealers Association:

1. To deter global fraud in the container industry, and offer the potential shipping container buyers with a safe source of “Certified” container dealers.
2. To educate the consumer, and help to eliminate buyer confusion.

Surge of Deceptive Websites

Your container project is a big and important purchase. Whether you need 1 or 100 you need to treat it with the same caution as if you were buying a car.

Right now, the growing interest in Shipping Containers and ISBU modules has caused a surge in deceptive and even fraudulent websites.

• Container Brokers pretend to be a dealer, then shop to find inventory, then increase the end price by adding a commission.
• Referral Websites that collect your information then also attempt to make a commission.
• Email Address Harvesters who never attempt to assist the customer, but their only purpose is to collect email addresses and information to sell to marketing companies. Thus giving the customer more Spam and Junk Mail.

Very few of these websites are actually Dealers, and very seldom are you actually speaking or communicating with a legitimate Container Dealer.

The result when contacting most of these deceptive websites are higher prices, quality issues, bait and switch scams, and delays in beginning your important project.

There are actually very few legitimate Container Dealers and manufacturers globally.

This is where we are receiving the greatest number of complaints!

These places on the Internet are not where you will find legitimate, bona fide, experienced Shipping Container Dealers. As one business consultant said, “It’s like trying to find a chicken dinner in a garbage can.”

Some search these places to find shipping containers being sold by individuals and hopefully get a good deal. …Surprise!  This is where you will have the greatest chance to loose your money or get a poor quality container.

The reason the ISBU Association formed the Container Dealers Association is because the largest number of complaints from their website visitors and members was due to fraudulent shipping container sales and other bad experiences.

Virtually all these complaints came from people buying from brokers, referral websites and online site as listed above. Never did the ISBU Association have complaints about legitimate dealers.

The key to a successful project….

• Buy only from a “Certified” container dealer or manufacturer
• Know who you give your information to
• Don’t ever give your “email” information to a “free quotation”, forum, or “bulletin board” website
• Buy your containers direct from the “Certified” dealer
• Be sure the price includes delivery to your job site
